Blood Taking Services
Your GP is happy to discuss your blood tests with you and explain what they are for at the time of your appointment
Information About Blood Tests
If a Clinician has told you that you need to attend the hospital for an urgent blood test, please ensure that your forms are stamped and marked as urgent/same day.
This will allow you to attend the hospital without a booked appointment.

Housebound Patients
We are able to refer Housebound patients to the community phlebotomist. The service provider will contact you directly to arrange an appointment. Please ensure that your contact details and address are correct and up-to-date on our system. The GP or nurse will tell you if there are any special instructions that you need to follow before your test, such as fasting.
Private Blood Taking Services
The range of tests we can refer for as an NHS GP service is set by the local trusts and are those relevant to Primary Care. Tests that are more specialised, and subsequently need specialist interpretation, may not be available to us and will need to be arranged with your specialist who can also interpret the results.
You can also self fund and arrange many blood tests directly with providers such as Rainbow Labs. They provide a wide range of tests including the regular privately requested fertility blood tests. They also offer a range of locations for blood taking as well as for some tests the ability to take it yourself at home.
