Phlebotomy Services Locally

Please note the hospitals have been sectioned in a way that they are considered to be low COVID risk as compared to GP settings where we actually see patients who are unwell, infectious and may have COVID. The prebookable appointments also ensure minimal waiting. 

 

Royal Free Hospital

Adult Phlebotomy

This is our closest and main blood sample taking service and is our default printing form option. From 21 November 2019, the routine adult blood test service will be by appointment. There will be a very limited walk-in on the day facility. Only urgent blood tests marked as 'Urgent/Same day' will be accepted.

Please follow the steps below. To book your test online please click here and click on the link to the booking system or click here. Register your details (please note that you will only have to do this the first time you book a blood test and you can use the same log-in details if you need to book another test later).

If you are unable to book your blood test online, please call the trust to make your appointment on: 020 7443 9757 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm). Normal call charges will apply.

Location: Ground floor of the Royal Free Hospital

Closest stations: Hampstead Heath and Belsize Park Station, bus C11 goes directly there.

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 0730-1730 Saturday 0800-1300.

Childrens'  blood tests at the Royal Free Hospital

Children below the age of 16 are seen by appointment only at the Royal Free Hospital. We do not offer a walk-in service.

The children's blood test clinic is open for all blood tests. 

We recommend that you book your child's blood test appointment online - book appointment online. If you are unable to book an appointment online, please call 020 7794 0500 ext. 33578, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), 9am - 5pm.

Please bring the confirmation text/email - you will not be able to enter the hospital without this.

To keep our staff and patients as safe as possible, only one adult can accompany the child. Upon arrival in the clinic, the parent, guardian or the adult accompanying will be asked to consent for blood to be taken.

The children's blood test clinic at Royal Free Hospital runs at the following times (excluding bank holidays):

  • Tuesday to Friday 09:00 – 16:00

Childrens'  blood tests at Barnett Hospital 

Children below the age of 11 are seen by appointment only in the Galaxy children’s clinic at Barnet Hospital.

The children’s blood test clinic at Barnet Hospital is open for all blood tests. 

Due to limited capacity, appointments can only be booked by a patient’s clinician at this time. You will receive a call from our team once the appointment has been confirmed.

To keep our staff and patients as safe as possible, only one adult can accompany the child. Upon arrival in the clinic, the parent, guardian or the adult accompanying will be asked to consent that blood is taken.

The clinic runs at the following times (excluding bank holidays):

  • Monday to Friday 09:00 – 16:00
 

Childrens' blood tests at Chase Farm Hospital

Children below the age of 11 or who have special requirements are seen by appointment only in the paediatric department at Chase Farm Hospital.

We recommend that you book your child's blood test appointment online here

Upon arrival in the clinic, parents, guardians or the adult accompanying your child will be asked to consent that blood is taken. If your child is being accompanied by another adult you must complete a consent form in advance.

The childrens blood test clinic at Chase Farm Hospital runs at the following times (excluding bank holdiays):

  • Tuesday 09:00 - 12:50
  • Wednesday 09:00 - 14:00
  • Thursday 09:00 - 15:30
  • Friday 09:00 - 12:40

Young people between the ages of 11 and 16 are seen by appointment only in the blood test unit at Chase Farm Hospital. They need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If the young person is being accompanied by another adult, a parent or guardian must complete a consent form. Upon arrival in the clinic, parents, guardians or the accompanying adult will be asked to consent that blood is taken. Find out about blood tests for adults.

Children's blood tests at Edgware Community Hospital

A paediatric ambulatory hub has been established at Edgware Community Hospital and is open for both urgent and routine blood tests.

The children's blood test clinic at Edgware Community Hospital runs at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday (including bank holidays) 09:00 - 15:00

An appointment will be required and can be booked by calling 020 3758 2410. Patients will need to have their blood request form from their clinician before an appointment can be booked.

University College London Hospital

From the 1st July 2020 all walk in outpatients appointments will stop and will be replaced with a new patient booking system. This will help to ease congestion in the phlebotomy service to better manage social distancing and improve patient safety.

Community Domiciliary Phlebotomy Service

For housebound patients we are able to refer to the community phlebotomist to take blood samples at your home. We are unable to give you a precise date or time. The service will contact you accordingly to arrange the visit. Please ensure that your contact details and address are correct and up-to-date on our system prior to any referral by the doctor.

NB. For Fasting Blood Tests ie Cholesterol, Glucose and a few other tests as prolactin, please ensure that you have not had anything to eat or drink for 12 hours other than water and your regular medication
